Understanding sharing permissions

When you share content on Everabyte, you are not limited to all-or-nothing access. Permissions, based on roles, define precisely what each person can do: view, download, or manage.

Everabyte’s sharing permissions are role-based and apply at folder and file level. They determine whether a person can view the content, retrieve a copy, or manage the shared space.

Three access levels

View

The person can see the shared content. This level suits situations where reading the content is enough.

Download

The person can retrieve a copy of the file. This level suits recipients who need to keep or rework the document.

Manage

A broader access level, reserved for the people to whom you entrust the administration of the shared content.

At folder and file level

Permissions can apply at two levels: the folder and the file. You can define an access framework for everything inside a folder, and specify permissions for a particular file. In practice, start from the folder to set the overall framework, then adjust individual files when the situation calls for it.

The least-privilege principle

Give each person the lowest access level that lets them work: view when it is enough, download when it is necessary. This limits the impact of a wrong recipient or a link that spreads too widely.
