Every category of data has its own retention period — no more, no less. Here are the periods applied at Everabyte, and the erasure model that makes deletion genuinely definitive.

Deleting a file: the trash and permanent deletion
A deleted file stays in the trash for 30 days, where it can be recovered — see our article on recovering a deleted file. After that, it can no longer be restored from the app and is queued for permanent deletion.
The erasure model: remove every copy and its key material
Each file is encrypted with its own key, stored only in wrapped (encrypted) form. Permanent deletion removes every stored copy and version of the file, together with the wrapped key material that protects it. Once the purge completes, the remaining ciphertext is permanently unreadable — including in any backup still in rotation. Rather than chasing every copy, this erasure makes the data unreadable everywhere it exists. Where a retention lock or legal hold applies, deletion is deferred until the lock lifts, as described in our Privacy Policy.
Important — After you request account deletion, a 14-day grace period applies. Once it ends, the account is permanently closed: this deletion is irreversible.

Can I cancel my account deletion?
During the 14-day grace period, yes; after that, closure is permanent.
How long do you keep my billing data?
7 years, in line with UK tax law.
Can a deleted file reappear from a backup?
No: permanent deletion removes the stored copies and versions together with the wrapped key material protecting the file, making the remaining ciphertext permanently unreadable, including in any backup still in rotation.
How long do you keep my login attempts?
90 days.
