Share files securely

Everabyte lets you share files with simple access controls: you decide who can see or download your content, and under which conditions. Every share goes through a secure link, and you stay in control of how it is used. Here is how it works and which options you can combine.

You share files through a secure link that you control. Depending on the options available for your share, you can protect it with a password, set an expiration, limit downloads, restrict access to preview-only mode, and disable forwarding.

A secure link, under your control

Sharing on Everabyte follows one simple principle: a secure link handed to the recipient of your choice, together with the restrictions you have defined. You decide what the recipient can do — view or download — and for how long. For the detail of access levels, see our article on sharing permissions.

The options available for your share

Depending on the options available for your share, you can combine the following protections.

Password protection

A password can be required to open the link. Only people who know it can access the shared content.

Link expiration

The link can stop working after a set number of days, hours, or views. Once that threshold is reached, the content is no longer accessible through that share.

Download limits

You can limit the number of downloads allowed. Beyond that limit, the file can no longer be retrieved through the link.

Preview-only mode

Preview-only mode lets recipients view the content without retrieving a copy of the file.

Disable forwarding

Forwarding of the share can be disabled, so the link does not circulate beyond the people you intended.

Ending a share

You are not locked into a share once it is created: access can be revoked when you no longer need it. To go further, read our sharing best practices.

Common issues

The recipient cannot open the link.

Check whether the link has expired (days, hours, or views reached) and that the password entered is correct. If needed, create a new share.

The recipient can see the content but not download it.

The share is probably in preview-only mode. Create a new share with downloads allowed if you want the recipient to retrieve the file.

Can I limit how many times a file is downloaded?

Yes: a download limit can be set for a share.
