What Everabyte sees — and does not see

Zero-knowledge encryption has a direct consequence: Everabyte cannot read the content of your files. We do process the data needed to run the service, though. Here is precisely what.

In short

We never see the content of your encrypted files. We process your account and billing data, technical metadata (IP address, browser, device, language…) and file events — upload, download, share, delete — at metadata level only.

What we never see

The content of your files. It is encrypted on your device with a key Everabyte does not hold: we can neither read it nor reconstruct it.

The data we process

Account information

Name, email address, phone number, username, password (hashed), organization and role, billing address.

Billing records

The records tied to your payments and your subscription.

Technical metadata

IP address, browser, device, operating system, language, timezone, device identifiers.

File events

Events — upload, download, share, delete — are recorded at metadata level only, never at content level.

Security and support

Authentication attempts, API calls, errors, security events. When you contact support, we also process your communications with us.

Why this data?

This data is used to operate the service (authentication, billing, support), to secure the platform and to meet our legal obligations. How long each category is kept is detailed in our article on retention and deletion.

Common issues

Can Everabyte read the content of my files?

No: the content is encrypted on your device, with a key we do not hold.

Do you record the content of what I share?

No: sharing events are recorded at metadata level, never at content level.

Do you keep my password in plain text?

No: the password is stored hashed.

Account, support and log data stays in the UK regardless of the storage region of your files.
